Built in 1793, this Federal-style home, now a National Historic Landmark, was the original home of Mary Pickersgill, maker of the gigantic 30'x 42' American flag that so gallantly waved over Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.
This is the famous flag that inspired Francis Scott Key to write a poem that eventually became the lyrics to the National Anthem. The house contains colonial furniture and artwork and a separate museum attached to the house provides visitors with an historical look at the War of 1812. Located on the overlapping outskirts of Little Italy and the Inner Harbor, the house is best reached on foot if coming from the Harbor vicinity.
